Foundation Stone laying film ‘unearthed’

We were delighted to receive an unsolicited gift in the post the other day – a cine film of the foundation stone laying of the Church on 26 June 1954, sent to us by Frances Plant.

Her father, Len Challener, was a keen film maker and had a large collection of personal memories recorded. He and his wife Betty, being staunch members of SMC, included in his films a ‘short’ of the foundation stone laying (also depicted in our archives gallery) which Frances has wisely had digitised.

We are very grateful to her for sharing this irreplaceable memory with us.
