St John’s Quiz Night

St John’s Church are holding a Quiz Night on Saturday 16th November starting at 7:00pm in the Church Hall, next to the station. Tickets cost £8 and this will include supper of soup and a roll. You are asked to bring your own drinks, please. Teams will consist mainly of 6 people. If you wish to bring your own team that is great, but no problem if not as we will make up teams with people who hopefully will have expert knowledge on differing subjects, so you stand a good chance of being in the winning team! Christmas Child Boxes in preparation

The annual preparation of show boxes for Operation Christmas Child is well underway, thanks to generous donations of boxes and contents from many members of the Church. Boxes this year are expected to go to Eastern Europe and Africa, providing Christmas Gifts for children who might not otherwise receive any. Musical Evening at Ruxley

An evening of musical entertainment featuring Soiree on Saturday 16th November, 7:30 for 7:45pm at Ruxley Church, Ruxley Lane. Soiree are Sue Graves, Hector Gilchrist and Steve Poole. They sing a variety of beautiful songs, with fine harmony vocals, harmonica and acoustic guitars. Their aim is to create the warm, relaxing atmosphere of a satisfying musical evening spent with friends. Remembrance Sunday Service 2013

Our  traditional Remembrance Sunday Service, combined with the Parade Service of our Youth Organisations and the two minutes silence at 11:00am, to remember that our freedom comes at a cost. We remember soldiers like Corporal David Timmins who suffered 22 injuries and the loss of an eye while dealing with a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. We remember all those, like Malala in Pakistan, who put their lives at risk while actively working to bring justice and peace in violent parts of the world. New Website launched

At a meeting of all interested parties at the end of September 2013, SMC’s new website was launched to the public. With a lot of archive material, some not seen for many years, the website aims to become a single source of information for anything happening  on the premises, ecumenical or otherwise. The new website is very much a ‘living, breathing source of information’, and we welcome news and comments from friends everywhere. Just use our contacts page to get in touch.

New coffee area preparations

After a few months of discussion, the decision had been taken to remove the back three pews from the courtyard side of the Church to create space for a new refreshment area in the body of the Church itself. We managed to get £140 for the sale of the 4 old pews (including the one which had previously been removed from next to the sound desk), and they were collected and taken to a home for old pews at the end of September.

New Ruxley Church opens

After years of jumble sales, garden parties and even the odd sky dive, a new Church has finally opened in Ewell giving churchgoers the space they need. The new Ruxley Church in Ruxley Lane which will be officially opened on Sunday, September 8, replaced both the old Ruxley Church, formerly a Methodist Church, and Anglican St Francis Church of Assisi which was demolished due to subsidence in 2002.
